The Rossouw family history in the Delmas/Springs area in South Africa emerged with Jan Adriaan Rossouw, one of the family’s grandfathers, who farmed in the area from 1925. Jan Adriaan worked in the construction industry, riding his bicycle to Springs and back every day in order to provide for his family. He can be credited with setting the standard for hard work and determination that is always present within the Rossouw Family.
One of his sons, Chris Rossouw, felt that he would like to continue to farm. Chris and his father, Jan Adriaan, believed that an academic underpinning was important. Chris paved the way for his sons and grandchildren, who would later follow in his footsteps,
by completing his BSc degree at the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (University of Pretoria). This foundation played a critical part in setting the family and the family business apart from their competitors at the time. In time, formal education became one of the key pillars of the Rossouw family’s success and growth. Chris and his wife, Naubie, started small in 1964 by farming on 50 rented morgen. In 1968 Chris and Naubie managed to purchase their first farm.
Under the careful hands of Chris and Naubie the family business showed rapid growth. Gradually their sons, Adriaan, Charles, Chris, and Naudé equally started investing their energy and academic knowledge into the family business, introducing new insight and technology.
Chris (Snr) has a multitude of quotes and own observations that he shares to pass on his years of experience and acquired wisdom. On growing a family business, he observes: “You must be like a chameleon: Firstly, keep your eyes wide open and focused on the world around you. Secondly, keep on moving forward, even if it is slow and with great caution, do not stagnate – just keep on moving.”
These words have become part of the fibre of every son’s being. The family interests are constantly growing, changing and adjusting. Moves into Blueberry production, carefully planned BBBEE involvement in the family interests, and strategic partnerships in the construction sector of the conglomerate, herald new opportunities and new horizons for the family.
But how about you? The Rossouw Family values connection and community. They invite you to engage with them as friends, as service providers, as clients, as business partners, as fellow mortals who work this earth. Perhaps you share similar values or maybe you are challenged to install similar standards in your own workplace. It could be that you are
inspired to take hands with the Rossouw Family on certain philanthropic endeavours, or embark on projects that serve your own community in a unique way. The Rossouw Family wishes that this small peek into their family life will encourage YOU towards action. The family implores each and every one who connects on this platform, in the words of their patriarch, Chris Rossouw: “Do not stagnate. Keep on moving!”
